Ideas can happen anywhere at any time, but they start with communicating. And add to that, we’re all exhausted! 

I realize that this is a strange way to start a blog post, but let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way. 

I was reading a great post on Spin Sucks earlier today about how our cognitive energy is being taxed to the absolute max right now. 

Truer words have never been spoken. 

On a good day (forget about the rough days), it’s tough to get mentally motivated to be productive. 

Knowing Leads to Preparing

I’ve always believed that knowing as much about any situation, especially crisis situations, gives you the information you need to manage it the right way. 

The situation we’re in is no different. 

We know how difficult things can be, which means we need to make the adjustments we need as individuals and leaders to be productive. 

Of course, these adjustments will be different for everyone. There are a lot of tips out there on how to manage stress during this time so we won’t dive in to that, but I’ve put some good resources to check out at the bottom of this blog. 

But the point is you need to find what works for you. 

Which leads me to today’s strategic thought…

We All Need Creativity

Everyone need creativity and new ideas right now. The solutions to yesterday’s challenge won’t get your business through this crisis. 

And the good news is that this can happen anywhere, at any time. You don’t have to be at a desk, in the office, in a meeting or at a computer. You just have to be. 

So, ideas can happen anywhere at any time. But all ideas start with some form of communication. 

Think about it – every idea you’ve had for a challenge or opportunity came because information was communicated to you in some way. 

I realize that’s a huge oversimplification of an idea, but hopefully you get what I’m saying. 

Communications At The Helm

As communicators, we should be on the frontlines of the business response to this crisis, and our role has never been more important than it is today. 

For businesses, this means you need to be communicating with your audiences, especially your employees and teams in strategic and meaningful ways. 

Help give them what they need to come up with new ideas and exciting programs to drive business results. 

Your internal stakeholders are your best resource so give them the foundation to be the innovators YOU need. 

This is a chance for all of us to reset, evaluate our communications priorities, focus on quality vs. quantity and get creative with how we communicate. 

Remember, if you’re open to it, amazing ideas can come at any place and any time!
